Nxamaseri Island Lodge stands as one of the oldest and most cherished camps in the Okavango Delta. Its history dates back to the early 1980s when it was founded by PJ and Barney Bestelink. PJ, a seasoned guide, embarked on months of exploration, scouring the delta’s permanent water channels in search of the perfect location to establish his home and camp. Among the many options, he found solace in the Nxamaseri Channel, drawn by its beauty and seclusion. Consequently, he chose to build the lodge on a large, shaded island tucked away within the Nxamaseri waterways.
Embracing local inspiration, Nxamaseri Island Lodge pays homage to the rich and vibrant culture of Botswana. The lounge area offers mesmerizing views of the panhandle and welcomes guests with comfortable seating arrangements and a delightful collection of books to peruse.
The lodge comprises 7 double chalets and 2 family chalets, each thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and tranquility. As part of the esteemed Desert & Delta Safaris portfolio, Nxamaseri takes immense pride in delivering an experience that is profoundly personal and intimate. Guests can revel in a range of water-based activities, including leisurely boating and mekoro trips, navigating the intricate network of channels that crisscross the landscape.

Day trips to the Tsodilo Hills are available, offering a glimpse into the rich history of the area, including the chance to view some of the 2,000 ancient San paintings.
Each chalet is privately situated on its own teak deck. Bedrooms are quiet havens with open access to a seating area on a private deck. Each evening will see guests’ beds turned down and if there is a chill in the air, hot water bottles are tucked in under the blankets as a welcome surprise for tired guests. A safe is provided in each room and at reception for guests’ valuables.
The family chalet is a spacious room ideal for larger families. It is set on a private teak deck and consists of two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The private balcony offers ample space for families to relax beneath the forest canopy between activities.
The honeymoon chalet is located on the opposite side of the lodge and is peacefully situated on the island’s edge, featuring a private viewing deck that overlooks the Okavango Panhandle. Inside, the room provides more space than a standard room and includes an open-plan bathroom, making it the perfect choice for travelers celebrating a special occasion.
Guided excursions through the deeper channels and lagoons of the Okavango Delta in hard-bottom aluminium boats. The boats are equipped with comfortable seats, a foldaway canvas roof and life jackets.
Enjoy a guided tour of one of Botswana’s greatest treasures, the Tsodilo Hills. The tour takes you up the male hill – one of the highest points in Botswana before giving you the opportunity to explore and enjoy the hundreds of rock art paintings which surround the hills.
